Fleet Management and Evidence Technician

Starting Salary: $43,965 - $48,361 DOQ
Join our team under the supervision of the Services Division Commander, where you'll play a crucial role in the technical, mechanical, and administrative aspects of police fleet operations and property management. Your responsibilities will ensure the safety, efficiency, and integrity of our operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fleet and Automotive Maintenance:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair police vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and routine vehicle inspections.
- Maintain detailed records of fleet repairs and maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate with dealers and manufacturers for recalls and warranty work.
- Respond to emergency repair calls and manage vehicle inventory.
- Property and Evidence Management:
- Maintain the chain of custody for all evidence.
- Enter and store evidence information securely.
- Prepare evidence for court proceedings and laboratory analysis.
- Communicate effectively with prosecutors, courts, and investigators.
- Handle hazardous evidence safely and dispose of it as needed.
- Administrative and Support Duties:
- Answer phone inquiries and assist officers, staff, and the public.
- Process documentation related to fleet and evidence operations.
- Provide administrative support and maintain accurate records.
- Prepare for audits and compliance reviews.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2-3 years of experience in automotive maintenance, fleet management, or evidence handling (preferred).
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience considered.
Special Requirements:
- Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain property and evidence room certification.
- Additional training or certification in automotive repair or evidence management may be required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in automotive repair and maintenance practices.
- Understanding of legal chain of custody requirements.
- Familiarity with departmental policies and procedures.
- Strong ability to maintain accurate records and exercise sound judgment.
- Effective communication skills with law enforcement personnel and the public.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
