The City of Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation & Events department is recruiting for the position of Park Maintenance II, (Turf Grass) Full Time.

Under general supervision, this position is to assist with semi-skilled and manual labor in the maintenance and repair of parks, recreational equipment and facilities, and grounds. Work involves general landscaping and maintenance; safety inspections; repair/maintenance of light to heavy Commercial landscaping equipment including tractors; tracking of fleet servicing; assisting in the specialized maintenance of Hybrid sports turf including herbicide and fertilizer applications; maintains, repairs and operates large scale irrigation systems; repairs, maintains, winterizes and de-winterizes the City Aquatic Center; and performs a variety of grounds keeping and maintenance duties in the layout, care and maintenance of athletic fields, parks, landscaped areas, playground equipment and park facilities throughout the City. Employees in this classification also provide logistical support to City sponsored special events. 

Incumbent must perform full range of duties as assigned with only general instruction and supervision.  Must possess the ability to follow written & verbal instruction, and communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisory staff, and customers.  Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to include Saturdays, Sundays and some evenings. Minimum of two (2) years previous experience operating various types of landscaping equipment.  Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.  Criminal background and driving record checks are required.   These positions are considered “emergency essential” for storm debris clean-up operations, and may be required to work when City offices are closed and during inclement weather.
